Tottenham secured knockout round in Champions League

Tottenham Hotspur is one of the ‘Big Six’ clubs in Premier League and they have taken part in the ongoing season of Champions League. They are in the group where Spanish giant Barcelona is currently dominating and holding the top position but at the end of the group stage, Tottenham secured knockout round in Champions League at the home venue of Barcelona Camp Nou. At the beginning of the match between Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur at Camp Nou, Spurs went behind but at the end, they turned around. They scored a match drawing goal finally and drawn the match so far. So, team Spurs finished the ground stage by holding the runners-up position and so, the English club has confirmed their place in the knockout stage.

At Wembley Stadium in the first leg, Barcelona won the match by 4 – 2 goals. In the 2nd match of the group, at the home venue of Inter Milan, they made a draw against PSV Eindhoven by a 1 – 1 goal. The points of Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan are same with 8 points each. But, Spurs scored the goal at the away venue and so, they have confirmed the ticket of the round of last sixteen in Champions League.

Barcelona has become the group champion earlier and so against Tottenham Hotspur in the 2nd leg, Barca coach Ernesto Valverde benched a number of regular players and among them, Messi and Suarez were the two players. Suarez suffered from injury and so, he was not in the squad so far. But the absence of best two forwards in 8th minutes of the game, Barcelona was led by the French star Dembele. From the midfield he took control of the ball and went to the box and escaped Winks, he scored the very first goal of the match.

In 30th minutes of the game, Tottenham could return to the game but the opportunity was missed. The cross of Rose was failed to touch by Son Heung-Min. Just a couple of minutes later, the Korean forward got the goalkeeper alone but failed once again.

In the 2nd half, Tottenham Hotspur almost dominated the ground considering ball possession and started to make attack and attack. But the Barca goalkeeper Cillessen was just like the wall. In 49th minutes he returned the shot of Harry Kane and in 51st minutes of the game, the English forward was failed once again due to the goalkeeper. Finally, in 85th minutes of the game, the Dutch goalkeeper failed just once. The Brazilian midfielder Lucas Moura scored the goal with the help of Harry Kane. With the goal, the team of Pochettino secured their position in the knockout round of Champions League.
