Zimbabwe cricket team is currently traveling South Africa and the duration of the tour will be September and October 2018. They are scheduled to play an ODI series and a T20I series against the home team South Africa. There were no rooms for warm-up matches and the two teams already started the ODI series. The ODI series consisted of three matches and the series was the preparation match of the Proteas for upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. South Africa thrash Zimbabwe to record 3-0 ODI whitewash. It means team Zimbabwe failed to win any single match out of three.
Team Zimbabwe is not among the top ten ranking according to ICC ODI ranking where South Africa is standing on 4th position so far. Proteas is also named as ‘Choker’ due to their poor performance in ICC World Cup and different international events.
But it is true that they are very powerful team in ODI and Test cricket in recent time being and with luck, they could win the upcoming season of ICC World Cup 2019 which is going to stage at England and Wales.
Faf du Plessis is the current skipper of South Africa and AB De Villiers is not in the squad right now. On the other side, Hamilton Masakadza is the skipper of team Zimbabwe.
The competition between the two teams started in 30th September, 2018 at Diamond Oval, Kimberley. Jonker for South Africa and Mavuta for Zimbabwe made their ODI debut through the match.
In the match, South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl first. Zimbabwe faced batting collapsed and scored only 117 runs and lost all wickets. South Africa scored 119 runs in 26.1 overs and got the easy victory. Heinrich Klaasen highest 44 runs for Proteas.
In 3rd October, 2018 the 2nd match between them took place at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein. Through the match, Zimbabwean captain Hamilton Masakadza played his 200th ODI. South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first.
They scored 198 runs in 47.3 overs and lost all wickets. Later, Zimbabwe came to chase the score but in 24 overs they scored 78 runs and lost all wickets. Imran Tahir destroyed their innings by taking six wickets in 24 runs. So, South Africa won by 120 runs there and confirmed the series already.
In 6th October 2018 the 3rd and last ODI between them started. Zimbabwe won the toss and started to bat in the match at Boland Park, Paarl They scored 228 runs where Sean Williams scored highest 69 runs so far. In return, Proteas chased the score successfully in 45.5 overs. Team South Africa scored 231 runs by losing six wickets. So, they won by 4 wickets.
