Ballon d’Or is the highest level of the individual award which is actually an annual football award and it is presented by France Football. The journey of Ballon d’Or started a long time ago. In 1956, the first award was given though, at that time, it was known as ‘European Player of the Year’ award. The award was given only the European players. But in 1995, the new rule added. The player playing in European clubs from the different nations could win it. From 2010 to 2015, FIFA made an agreement and FIFA World Player of the Year changed to FIFA Ballon d’Or. The agreement was ended in 2016 and so, the name was reverted back to Ballon d’Or and FIFA started a new award named The Best FIFA Men’s Player. In 2015, Cristiano Ronaldo achieved the 2nd position and Brazilian rising star Neymar grabbed the 3rd position for the first time.

2016 – Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

Cristiano Ronaldo won his 4th Ballon d’Or in 2016 when Lionel Messi stood next to him. He got the 2nd position. The 3rd position was claimed by French star Antoine Griezmann who played for the Spanish club Atletico Madrid. CR7 played for Real Madrid and L10 played for Barcelona in the year 2016.

2017 – Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

CR7 got equal five Ballon d’Or in 2017 and touched the record of Lionel Messi. Now, we are considering both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the top-rated players and the maximum winners of Ballon d’Or award.

CR7 scored 42 goals in the season and led his team Ream Madrid to the Champions League. Lionel Messi scored 54 goals in the season but considering the vote of football journalists, CR7 claimed the award. LM10 grabbed the 2nd position where Brazilian star Neymar got the 3rd position.

2018 – Luka Modric (Croatia)
