The Proteas beat Sri Lanka in 1st Test at Port Elizabeth

In the first Test of three matches Test series at Port Elizabeth, Proteas beat Sri Lanka by big score difference. So, through this victory, they went a step ahead to the series win by 1 – 0. They have also two more Test matches ahead and to ensure the series win, the Proteas just need another victory out of two matches.

Before main competitions :

However, before starting the main competition, the Lankan team played a three days warm up matches with South African Invitation XI and they basically played the match to adapt their environment well. But, in the first match, it did not help much. Sri Lanka has not much good experience by playing against the Proteas at their home ground.

where they last time visited South Africa in 2011 when they played three Test as well but lost the series by 2 – 1 and also in last time they faced in 2014 when the Proteas visited Sri Lanka and this time also South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 1 – 0. So, Lankan usually faced hard time against South Africa but this time they are travelling with hope to change the future.

Proteas beat Sri Lanka Port Elizabeth test :

At the Port Elizabeth, the first test started in 26th December, 2016. The Proteas won the toss and decided to bat first. Though, they knew their ground very well but could not use the facilities. They getting all out by scoring just 286 runs in their 1st innings. Lakmal played the key role for Lankan bowlers. He took five wickets.

Came to bat in the 1st innings of Sri Lanka, they were all out by just making 205 runs. Vernon Philander also five wickets for the Proteas.

However, South Africa scored 406 runs in their second innings which was large enough to chase. This time, the Lankan bowlers did not make any big hit so soon.

Though, the Proteas batsman scored high enough in their second innings but Sri Lanka got packet by scoring 281 runs. So, the lost the match by 206 runs. Sri Lankan batsmen failed to play a longer innings in their second innings. Mendia and Mathews started to defense but only able to make two fifties.
